The story behind the trophy
As technical consultant of RIGO Verffabriek, you get in touch with people that make beautiful objects. For example, earlier this year, I visited the strange workplace of wood artist Jan van Berkel in Uden.
by Han, technical consultant floors
Here, he collects wood that others can no longer use. As a result, he has gathered an enormous variety of wood in all shapes and sizes which he cherishes, dries, cuts on a bandsaw of his own design and combines into furniture, objects and utensils.
We immediately had a click, simply because we at RIGO enjoy creativity, craftsmanship and beautiful and sometimes wacky things.
I immediately knew I'd just met the maker of the RIGO trophy for the Dutch Parquet Installing Championship 2019. We award this trophy to the participant that adds an extra dimension to their board by being creative with the finish and application of our products.
Jan made a beautiful bowl for us. A pattern of cubes in oak, mahogany and Bilinga. We parquet professionals are very familiar with these wood types and that pattern. Jan added an extra dimension by making the bowl round and somewhat hollow.
The trophy symbolises what we at RIGO Verffabriek think and what the winner of our trophy does.
Like last year, Jasper Hoogervorst won the cup, defeating Daan van den Berg by a very slim margin. Congratulations!
In 2018, the RIGO trophy was a beautiful (cutting) board made of wenge and maple wood by Ben von Hebel.
