Painting in heraldic colours
Krijn Kraaijeveld, my former teacher at Nimeto (Vocational school for creative space creators), asked me to visit Cibap (vocational design school) in Zwolle. In Zwolle, I am meeting the students of the excellence programme of various vocational painting schools.

The students are going to cast an escutcheon using plaster, which they'll then paint using TOPLIN high gloss. I brought all the heraldic colours with me today. These colours were established as part of the heraldic system. Heraldry is the art used to decorate the equipment of knights with symbolic imagery. In time, this led to (family) crests. The heraldic colours are found on escutcheons and in castles and manors. They are generally combined with a precious metal like silver or gold.
During my visit, I give a practical class on linseed oil paint. Some of the students already used TOPLIN during their internships. They are happy to share their experiences. A few weeks later, I receive beautiful photos of the escutcheons that were painted using TOPLIN. That makes us happy!
