The challenge:
KC Helen Parkhurst is a Dalton school for children aged 0-12. The primary objective of a children's centre is to ensure children are happy and successful in a pleasant, sustainable environment. This goal is realised through a continuous learning curve, working on independence, working together based on schedules made by the children themselves and by picking an optimally sustainable property.
The design has three key pillars:
1. Influencing the indoor climate
The user can individually influence the temperature, ventilation, daylight exposure and lighting as much as possible. This results in a more positive evaluation of the indoor climate.
2. Sustainable building
Design solutions, detailing and choice of materials were specifically selected to realise an optimally sustainable building in both construction and use
3. Low energy consumption
Limiting and preventing energy consumption has a high priority. As such, the building was built in the correct orientation, features a sufficiently insulating shell with adequate mass and volume, and was laid out to ensure sufficient daylight penetrates deep into the building.
The property is estimated to be commissioned in late 2019.
Substrate:
New, industrially primed
The solution:
The client and architect had 3 key requirements, including a sustainable building, 'The detailing and choice of materials were specifically selected to realise an optimally sustainable building in both construction and use'.
SMT Bouw & Vastgoed and Repaint Schilderwerken are therefore choosing to use more sustainable paint, such as EKODUR Lacquer Interior Satin. The Ekodur has an excellent brush feel, a longer open time and stays brilliantly white. EKODUR Lacquer 1K was applied to the window frames. EKODUR 2K was used for the door frames and the steel pillars, as this paint is extra impact and scratch resistant and easy to clean, making it highly suitable for the children that will make use of the school.
The result:
The versatile building will be commissioned in late 2019. This way, the three base principles for the realisation were "successfully implemented.
