Warm lacquer lets wood truly come into its own

The challenge:

The client wanted an oak fishbone floor, but ended up with a unique, warm floor with beautifully designed elements. The house dates from about 1900 and featured lovely architectural elements from those days, including, among others, stained-glass windows and a chimney. These shapes from the Art Nouveau movement formed the starting point of the floor design. Saar Berks wanted to show the home owners that a warm wood type with a subtle gloss would enhance the original characteristics of the style.

Mutenye is a lovely type of wood. The heartwood has a natural, high gloss and is somewhat similar to teak and walnut.

The substrate:

Newly placed patterned flooring. Fishbone flooring with apron and feature strips as well as perpendicular end slats. Mutenye wood types with Wenge apron strips and ornaments.

The solution:

Saar Berks spent a lot of time preparing and creating a display board. In the end, the client had to be convinced to choose for this exotic wood type by means of the display board. The finish was essential: Saar went for STEP Parquet Primer Warm combined with STEP Parquet Lacquer 2K Satin.

The result:

The client stated that the end result was even more beautiful than they expected.
It's the cherry on the cake of this residence, where old and new meet through craftsmanship and technology.
