This hard wax oil forms a film-forming and impregnating layer and is softer than a lacquer. This gives the floor a rich and lively character. FOR THE USER
- 1-component hard wax oil.
- Suitable for European and most exotic wood types.
- Rollable and without the need of a polishing machine.
- Recoatable after approx. 8-10 hours.
- System:
- 2 layers of Rollable Hard Wax Oil on bare sanded wood. Intermediate sanding with P120 before the second layer.
- First layer of ROYL Oil 1K/2K and 1 or 2 layers of ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil. Intermediate drying time of at least 24 hours after a fresh layer of ROYL 1K. Intermediate drying time of at least 12 hours after a fresh layer of ROYL Oil 2K. - Note: solvent-based product; ensure sufficient ventilation while using.

- When do I use ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil?

Because the ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil forms a film layer on the wood, the wood gets a fuller, more filled appearance than the pure, impregnating look of ROYL Oil 1K/2K.
This is of course a matter of taste. In addition, the ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil is also available in satin, where the pure, impregnating look of ROYL Oil 1K/2K will always be matte.
- Why is ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil is so suitable for the Do-It-Yourselfer?

Roller application offers a faster and simpler working method compared to oil application. The use of a 1-disc polishing machine, pads and cloths is not necessary.
- Can I use ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil over existing film-forming hard wax layers?

Yes, that is very possible. Make sure that the existing hard wax layer is properly cleaned beforehand. This is possible with ROYL Intensive Cleaner #9120. Then rinse with clean water and lightly sand the surface with P120. Make sure that the colour is not affected and avoid deep sanding scratches.
- ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil contains solvents and does not comply with ARBO (Dutch Heath and Safety requirements) for professional indoor use. Can I use this?

As a Do-It-Yourselfer you can simply use ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil. Wear suitable respiratory protection when using and ventilate the area very well after drying.
For professional use, it is necessary to request an exemption from the Replacement Regulation (ARBO regulation 4.32a adhesives and paints indoors) from the Labour Inspectorate.
In Belgium, the use of ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil is also permitted for professionals.
- Why is a thin layer better than a thick one?

A layer of rollable hard wax oil that is too thick will take (much) longer to dry completely. You will notice this because the layer still feels rubbery and greasy. It doesn’t become stronger and is actually more sensitive to scratches. If you use the rollable hard wax oil over a lighter white or grey colour oil, a too thick layer will also affect the colour in an undesirable way. The colour will become more yellow.
- Why is there a choice between 1 or 2 layers of ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil over ROYL 1K/2K?

Both are applied and both choices are possible. The choice is personal. You usually make a consideration between applying more layer thickness or the appearance of the surface.
More layer thickness offers more wear layer, and therefore a longer maintenance interval, while with one layer, the grain structure of the wood remains more visible.
- Can ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil be tinted?

That is undesirable. In general, it is undesirable to colour a transparent film-forming product. Due to roller application, there is a too big chance that a permanent colour difference will occur with overlaps and roller stops. If colour is desired, choose to use ROYL Oil 1K/2K in combination with a Colour Pigment as the first layer on bare wood.
- Is ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil suitable for industrial application?

Yes, the ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil can be used with an industrial rolling machine.
- How can I maintain ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil?

For regular mopping, use ROYL Mild Cleaner #9110 and/or ROYL Floor Soap #9130 Clear or ROYL Floor Soap #9131 White. It is often decided to use these two mopping agents alternately. This prevents the build-up of a soap layer on the floor.
Use ROYL Intensive Cleaner #9120 for occasional thorough cleaning and prior to applying a new layer of ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil.
Absolutely do not use ROYL Intensive Cleaner #9120 for regular mopping. After using ROYL Intensive Cleaner #9120, feed the finishing layer with oil.
The hard wax layer can be supplemented with ROYL Maintenance Oil #9090 Clear or #9091 White.
Before applying maintenance oil, first mop the floor with ROYL Intensive Cleaner #9120 and rinse with clean water.
In any case, do not use ROYL Water-based Maintenance Oil #9080 or ROYL Project Maintenance 2K #4580 on ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil.
Use the ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil to apply a new wear layer. Make sure that this is done in a timely manner, in any case, before the wear layer has completely worn through in some places. First clean the floor with ROYL Intensive Cleaner #9120 and sand immediately.
- Which types of wood are not or less suitable for finishing with ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil and what can I do?

In the past, it was found that finishing kambala/iroko, ipé/greenheart/lapacho, afrormosia, panga-panga and wenge with a rollable hard wax oil does not give good results in some cases. The finishing layer does not dry, does not harden of the film formation is not good. Below you will find an overview of the most suitable finishing systems.
The same also applies to a wide range of less common dense and heavy dark tropical woods. However, the results on this are much less well documented. We therefore advise you to be cautious about applying the ROYL Rollable Hard Wax Oil to these types of wood, and in any case, not to apply it as the first layer on bare wood. Use the information below as a guideline or request additional advice.
