PROTECTIVE OIL FOR OUTDOORS
Especially for outdoor wood, the oil production craftsmen of RIGO Verffabriek have developped ROYL Oil Exterior #4570, a product based on vegetable oil. The oil penetrates deeply into the pores of the wood and protects therefore the wood from the inside for a long time, against water, dirt and weather conditions.

- How can I check whether the substrate is sufficiently absorbent? What can I do to improve the absorption?

This can be quickly assessed by misting the wood with water. The desired effect is a smooth penetration of the water into the wood. If the water remains on the wood in droplets, the absorption effect is definitely insufficient and must be improved. This can be done by sanding open planed wood or wood with a smooth shiny surface. Indication is P80, but avoid disturbing sanding scratches. If sanding is not possible, the wood pores can be opened by thoroughly wetting the wood surface and brushing it off.
- Can I restore greyed or weathered wood?

This can be done by treating the wood with a de-greying agent. This works very well with Ciranova EXTERIOR DEEP CLEANER. This treatment also cleans the wood well. Cleaning with ROYL Intensive Cleaner #9120 is then no longer necessary. Of course, rinse with clean water and let it dry thoroughly before applying the oil.
- How often should I oil my garden furniture?

First, give the garden furniture a good start by completely saturating the wood with ROYL Oil Exterior #4570 during the first treatment. The best way to do this is described in the Technical Data Sheet.
As a maintenance cycle, we recommend giving the furniture a maintenance treatment in the spring. Do you notice during the season that the water-beading effect on horizontal parts decreases and the wood stays wet longer after a rain shower, and becomes somewhat darker in colour? Then that is a signal that the wood can use some extra oil. When the days get shorter towards autumn, the temperature drops and the furniture stays wet longer after a rain shower, it is wise to give the wood a preventive treatment.
- Can ROYL Oil Exterior #4570 also be coloured?

Yes, that is very possible. In fact, it is even advisable to do so, because adding a colour pigment increases the UV protection and thus offers even better protection against ageing by sunlight.
Colouring can be done by adding a separate pouch of COLOUR PIGMENT for Oil to the ROYL Oil Exterior #4570. This allows you to create the colours from the COLOUR CHARTS with a colour code starting with the letter C. If you do not want to change the colour of the wood too much, choose a wood-coloured pigment.
Please note: This gives an impression of the colours used on oak. The colour will turn out differently on another type of wood. If necessary, first make a test area to check the colour.
