SKYLT Extra Topcoat 2K

The use of SKYLT Extra #5300 Topcoat 2K has added value on floors especially. The innovative matting technology prevents gloss streaks caused by chair sliding, for example, and the untreated appearance is retained.

This is not an issue on furniture, vertical surfaces, support beams and ceilings, where the application of SKYLT Extra #5300 Topcoat 2K is less obvious.  

If an existing SKYLT floor still has many gloss disturbances after an intensive cleaning, choose SKYLT Extra #5300 Topcoat 2K if you want to retain the invisible ultra-matte look and feel.

Just like with SKYLT Primer #5020, the SKYLT Extra #5300 Topcoat 2K does not achieve a robust adhesion on SKYLT Recoatable Colour Oil 2K #505x. Therefore, only use SKYLT Original #5510 or SKYLT Titanium #5550 as the first layer over the recoatable colour oil. Then, finishing with SKYLT Extra #5300 Topcoat 2K is of course no problem and is even recommended in some situations.

Multiple layers of SKYLT Extra #5300 Topcoat 2K make the floor slightly darker compared to a finish with SKYLT Original #5510. That is why we recommend applying one layer of SKYLT Extra #5300 Topcoat 2K per system.

Gloss disturbances can occur when a thin film layer has formed on top of the lacquer layer due to dirt adhesion and residue build-up. This becomes visible against the grazing light through differences in gloss. This can be prevented and remedied by wet cleaning in the right way and with the right cleaning products.

These gloss disturbances are not to be confused with glossing. Then there is a blunt scratch in the top layer of a lacquer. This is permanent damage to the matting and will not be reduced by wet cleaning. This can be remedied by applying a new layer of lacquer.

Due to the natural look and feel of SKYLT Original #5510 and SKYLT Extra #5300 Topcoat 2K, it will feel less slippery than, for example, a floor with more shine. Just like a brushed surface, it is therefore slightly more sensitive to dirt pickup and residue build-up.

This can be prevented very easily by using SKYLT Conditioner #9140. This is a residue-free cleaner that, unlike many other cleaning products, does not leave a greasy layer of maintenance product on the floor.

In combination with a correct mopping method, residue build-up will be prevented.

Did it nevertheless somewhat appear? Then occasionally mop with STEP Intensive Cleaner #9200 to remove the built-up dirt deposits.

With a correct mopping method, the dirt is removed from the floor with a slightly damp and not – as is the case with only slightly damp cleaning – dissolved in water and then spread thinly over the floor.

• Use two buckets, one with soapy water/the other with clean water and a clean mop.
• Then successively use a slightly damp piece of the floor.
• And pick up the dirt from the floor with a wiping motion backwards.
• Rinse the mop in the bucket with rinsing water.

Do you want to clean extra well? Then rinse with clean water.

Change rinsing water regularly. In any case, if there is too much soap in it or if it has become too dirty.

Yes, it can. Although the SKYLT Extra #5300 Topcoat 2K has been developed as an extra protective layer over SKYLT Original #5510, it can be applied to a SKYLT Titanium #5550 system without technical objections. Our experience is that it can subtly change the appearance of the floor. The extent to which this becomes visible depends on the viewing direction and is actually only noticeable if you place the two variants directly next to each other.
