Our lacquer production craftsmen looked for a way to retain the untreated appearance of substrates. The result of their quest is SKYLT. With SKYLT, wood stays purely wood. SKYLT protects the original and emphasises the original appearance.
- 3 layers of SKYLT Original or 1 layer of SKYLT Primer and 2 layers of SKYLT Original.
- When using SKYLT Extra Topcoat 2K as toplayer: 2 layers of SKYLT Original and 1 layer of SKYLT Extra Topcoat 2K or 1 layer of SKYLT Primer, 1 layer of SKYLT Original and 1 layer of SKYLT Extra Topcoat 2K.

This may happen if the 2 components of the SKYLT Original were not sufficiently mixed or were applied in an incorrect ratio. You can solve this by lightly polishing the surface with P120 sandpaper. After adding the hardener, you should firmly shake the packaging for several minutes. Afterwards, lacquer the floor again.
In these cases, the floor has often been cleaned with an inappropriate detergent. Many standard floor cleaning products leave soap residue, which will, over time, create a glossy effect. You should always use SKYLT Conditioner for the regular maintenance of your SKYLT floor. SKYLT Conditioner was specially developed to retain the ultra-matte look of SKYLT. You can fix the floor by cleaning it once with STEP Intensive Cleaner and mopping it with clean water afterwards. That way, you'll remove all soap and dirt residue from the floor. This will bring back the ultra-matte look of SKYLT again.
Yes, we offer SKYLT Original in 0.5-litre packaging specifically for this purpose. SKYLT is highly suitable for providing furniture and floors with an invisible protective coat.
Yes, this is possible. It is important to add the two different hardeners (B-components) to separate A-components and to stir/shake well. These two separate mixed cans can then be added together. It is also no problem to apply two 'different' layers. To prevent optical differences, we always advice to apply each layer in with the same mixed product. So it is not advisable to apply SKYLT Original #5510 with the old hardener and then, in the same layer, apply SKYLT Original #5510 with the new hardener.
Yes, but recommend using coasters. Potential heat rings will disappear within a few days.
Yes, this is possible, and very easy to do on a small kitchen scale with a tare function. Use the mixing ratio as indicated in the Technical Data Sheet. Make sure to shake the entire packaging of the A-component well before taking a part out.
Two tips for resealing the hardener: Squeeze as much air as possible from the pouch and wipe the spout clean. This will extent the shelf life and ensure that you can still unscrew the cap the next time. But please note: the hardener has a limited shelf life after opening.
The mixing ratio (A : B in weight) of SKYLT Original #5510 is 15 : 1.
SKYLT Original #5510 is certainly very well suited for this. Of course, the floor must be well maintained.
The SKYLT Conditioner #9140 (or SKYLT Conditioner #9141 Spray & Wipe) leaves no soap residue. Other cleaning products can make the floor shine (soaf film) or there may be bleaching agents in the product that affect the lacquer layer.
When using only SKYLT Original #5510, sanding is required between the second and the third layer.
When using SKYLT Recoatable Colour Oil #5050, #5051 or #5052, sanding is necessary after the first layer. The wood fibers will set up less, so that less heavy or no polishing is required.
The SKYLT Original #5510 could be removed with a solution of 35% ammonia in water.
No, this is not possible. And we recommend sanding wooden surfaces completely bare before applying SKYLT.
SKYLT Original #5510 and SKYLT Titanium #5550 are resistant to a 48% solution of ethanol. We test this ourselves: we leave it for an hour without problems, so taking it off will certainly not be a problem. We would advise not to use a solution stronger than 70%.
Note: it must be real ethanol. The so-called rubbing alcohol is quite different (isopropylalcohol).
Covering a freshly lacquered floor always involves risks, although these are less when using a breathable quality. Our advice is to first carefully consider whether the work sequence can be adjusted, so that covering can be omitted. If there is really no other option, we advise the professional to first deliver the floor and only then have it covered. Never use tape to secure the covering material to the fresh lacquer coat.
Smoked floors can be finished with SKYLT. SKYLT does not contain any white pigment.
On dark woods, we recommend SKYLT Titanium #5550, but SKYLT Original #5510 is also widely used. The colouring is a matter of taste. A test on a small area can make the difference visible.
Note: If a lighter tint is chosen on a dark background, we recommend SKYLT Original #5510 as the first layer instead of SKYLT Primer #5020.
It doesn't matter for the end result whether you use a system of 1 layer SKYLT Primer #5020 and 2 layers SKYLT Original #5510, or a system of 3 layers SKYLT Original #5510; not in terms of appearance nor resistance. Also the application of the lacquer layer itself is not different.
So what is the difference?
With SKYLT Primer #5020 you benefit from a 1K product, you have less residual waste, and partly because of this, SKYLT Primer #5020 is more affordable. If you only use SKYLT Original #5510, you only need to purchase one product. This is more convenient for a small project, for example lacquering a table.
