Can you finish a table(top) with SKYLT?

Yes, we offer SKYLT Original in 0.5-litre packaging specifically for this purpose. SKYLT is highly suitable for providing furniture and floors with an invisible protective coat.

Can you use the product in proportion, so half a can/bottle with half hardener, and will the hardener still be good after opening?

Yes, this is possible, and very easy to do on a small kitchen scale with a tare function. Use the mixing ratio as indicated in the Technical Data Sheet. Make sure to shake the entire packaging of the A-component well before taking a part out.

Two tips for resealing the hardener: Squeeze as much air as possible from the pouch and wipe the spout clean. This will extent the shelf life and ensure that you can still unscrew the cap the next time. But please note: the hardener has a limited shelf life after opening.

Can a smoked floor be finished with SKYLT, and which SKYLT product shall I use?

Smoked floors can be finished with SKYLT. SKYLT does not contain any white pigment. 

On dark woods, we recommend SKYLT Titanium #5550, but SKYLT Original #5510 is also widely used. The colouring is a matter of taste. A test on a small area can make the difference visible. 

 

What are gloss disturbances and what can I do about them?

Gloss disturbances can occur when a thin film has formed on top of the varnish layer due to dirt adhesion and the build-up of residue. When viewed against the light, this becomes visible as variations in gloss. This is a maintenance issue that can be prevented and rectified by wet cleaning carried out correctly and using the appropriate cleaning products.
These gloss disturbances should not be confused with gloss marks. The latter refer to a dull scratch in the top layer of the varnish layer. This constitutes permanent damage to the matt finish. Such marks cannot be removed by wet cleaning. This can be rectified by applying a new coat of SKYLT Polish or a new layer of varnish.

What is the best way to maintain SKYLT Original, and why is the (correct) use of SKYLT Conditioner #9140 so important?

Due to the natural look and feel of SKYLT Original and SKYLT Extra Topcoat, the floor will feel less smooth than, for example, a floor with a higher gloss finish. Just like a brushed surface, this makes it slightly more susceptible to dirt adhesion and the build-up of residue.
This can be prevented very easily by using SKYLT Conditioner. This is a residue-free cleaner which, unlike many other cleaning products, does not leave a greasy film of maintenance product on the floor.
When used in combination with the correct mopping technique, residue build-up will be prevented.
Has a little build-up occurred despite this? Then mop occasionally with SKYLT Intensive Cleaner to remove the accumulated dirt.

What is a proper mopping method?

When mopping correctly, dirt is removed from the floor using a slightly damp mop, rather than – as is often the case – being dissolved in water and then smeared thinly across the floor.
o Use two buckets, one with soapy water and the other with clean water, and a clean mop
o Then, work your way across the floor, lightly dampening one section at a time
o Leave it to soak in for a moment
o Wet a slightly larger area and, where necessary, scrub with light pressure
o Then, using a back-and-forth motion, pick up the dirt from the floor.
o Rinse the mop in the bucket of rinse water.

Want to clean it extra thoroughly? Then give it a final wipe with clean water.
Change the rinse water regularly. At the very least, if too much soapy water gets in or if it has become too dirty.
