STEP Parquet Lacquer 2K is a robust, wear resistant and hassle-free parquet lacquer with an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Highly suitable for projects. While lacquering floors truly is a craft, we don't want to make it any more difficult than it has to be. That's why we developed the STEP Parquet Lacquers: extreme convenience for user and end user.

FOR THE USER
- 2-component Polyurethane Parquet Lacquer.
- Simply mix in the hardener by shaking A and B.
- Potlife A+B = 72 hours in closed packaging.
- If necessary, first apply a STEP Primer to make seamless application easier.
- STEP Parquet Lacquer 2K can also be applied directly to sanded oak (or other light wood types).
- SYSTEM: 3 coats of STEP Parquet Lacquer 2K or 1 coat of STEP Primer and 2 coats of STEP Parquet Lacquer 2K.
- Drying time 2-3 hours between the coats of lacquer.
- If necessary, sand with p120 sandpaper before the final coat.

- What is the advantage of a pot life of 72 hours of the STEP Parquet Lacquer 2K?

The big advantage is that you have much less waste and loss, because you don't have to throw away any of the mixed product and you can use the mixed product for 72 hours. You can also reuse the rollers, brushes, trays and plastic containers. Our advice is to cover and/or close used products.
- What does the hardener of the STEP Parquet Lacquer 2K "do"?

The isocyanate-free hardener:
- will only "harden" when the water has evaporated, this is after bout 3 to 4 hours.
- the viscosity of the mixed product increases over time, you can see that a reaction is taking place.
- the used of a hardener improves the resistances.
The mixed product should be stored with the cap on. This is in contrast to a hardener with isocyanate, the cap must be removed because isocyanate reacts with water and pressure is built up if the packaging remains closed. Because the new hardener does not contain isocyanate, no pressure is built up and the bottle/can can be closed.
- The pot life of STEP Parquet Lacquer 2K is 72 hours. Does is still affect the polishing which happens after 3 to 4 hours?

No, you can simply polish 3 to 4 hours after applying the lacquer.
- If you do not use a hardener in a STEP Parquet Lacquer 2K product, does the lacquer dry?

Yes, the product dries but is less resistant than the 2K.
- Can you use STEP over SKYLT?

Yes, think of the SKYLT Recoatable Colour Oil. If the customer wants to add an ultra matt/matt/satin/gloss level to it, this can be done by applying the STEP Parquet Lacquer (over the SKYLT layer then).
- Can you add more hardener than the amount of hardener that is in the pouch to the STEP Parquet Lacquer 2K?

Yes, it just has no added value. The hardener is precisely adjusted to the amount of product. Adding more hardener does not make the floor "harder".
- Should I sand in between coats?

Yes, use 120p grit sandpaper before the final coat.
- The floor shows streaks and seams after lacquering with STEP. Where are these streaks coming from, and how do I solve this?

The coat of lacquer was unable to flow properly. This may be the result of overly quick drying. This can be caused by: a lacquer coat that was applied too thinly or external factors like an overly warm floor. To remove the streaks, the entire floor will have to be sanded and lacquered again with sufficiently thick coats and the right drying conditions. For the correct method, please refer to the STEP Manual.
- A floor lacquered with STEP does not have the desired finish. How do I solve this?

You can polish the floor and apply a new coat of lacquer with the desired finish.
- There are streaks all over my floor. How is this possible?

If the floor is cleaned with normal soap or a multi-purpose detergent, residues may be left behind on the floor. These residues may cause a glossy effect. We recommend cleaning the floor with STEP Mild Cleaner.
- When should I go for a STEP 1K product and when should I go for a STEP 2K product?

Our STEP 2K products are highly suitable for floors in spaces with a commercial or project-related purpose. On top of that, STEP 2K products are the most suitable solution for surfaces that are in frequent contact with skin thanks to their high grease resistance. This includes bannisters, for example. For applications in houses, STEP 1K is the right solution.
- Can you use the product in proportion, so half a can/bottle with half hardener, and will the hardener still be good after opening?

The hardener has a limited shelf life after opening. The hardener reacts to moisture: squeeze the air ouf the pouche well.
- Can you cover a freshly lacquered floor with a "breathing" floor protection?

This can be done for a couple hours. It is strongly advised not to leave it longer. The lacquer needs oxygen to harden properly. If the floor is covered and shows damages, it can be polished and re-lacquered.
