While lacquering floors truly is a craft, we don't want to make it any more difficult than it has to be. That's why we developed the STEP Renovation Lacquer: extreme ease of use for the user and end user. Thanks to its perfect, extreme adhesion, it is very suitable for the renovation of lacquered floors and/or surfaces that cannot (any longer) be sanded bare. For example veneer parquet and factory-lacquered wooden floors. Also suitable for laminate, PVC and vinyl. The renovation lacquer hides surface wear, restores dull floors and quickly makes surfaces suitable for intensive use again.

STEP Renovation Lacquer can be used on lacquered wooden floors, laminate, vinyl and PVC. It cannot be used on floors finished with wax, linseed oil or linoleum. Given the necessary pre-treatments, STEP Renovation Lacquer is less suitable for oiled floors.
Experience shows that STEP Renovation Lacquer is not suitable for Corelan Hotcoating.
The STEP Renovation Lacquer is good to use if you can no longer find out which lacquer was used in the past, if you are looking for the safest choice in terms of adhesion or if the floor can no longer be sanded bare.
Can the floor still be sanded bare and do you know with which lacquer the floor was previously finished? Then you can use the same lacquer. For example: a floor is lacquered with STEP Primer Warm and 2 layers of STEP Parquet Lacquer 2K Mat. It is best to provide this floor with a new layer of STEP Parquet Lacquer 2K Mat. Of course, clean and sand first.
The renovation lacquer provides the floor with a perfect - even finish. The renovation lacquer hides surface wear, restores dull floors and makes surfaces suitable for intensive use. Deep damage such as cracks and deep scratches will remain visible.
You can mop the floor with STEP Mild Cleaner #9160 for regular and streak-free cleaning. The use of STEP Polish is not possible. Will a new layer of lacquered be required later? Then use the STEP Renovation Lacquer again. Any other lacquer will not adhere. First clean the floor with STEP Intensive Cleaner #9200.
We do not recommend this. Given the necessary pre-treatments, STEP Renovation Lacquer is less suitable for oiled floors.
STEP Renovation Lacquer is available in matte. Satin is available on request. Please take into account a slightly longer delivery time.
Micro-scratches are applied by sanding, which improves the mechanical adhesion of the new lacquer layer. A purple pad or scotch brite will not do this enough. Instead, use sandpaper, for example P120 or P150.
It is advisable to assess in advance by means of a test design whether the lacquer layer will show deviations due to the silicone contamination.
If there is silicone contamination, reduce the risk of deviations by applying an anti-silicone additive and cutting the lacquer without touching the sealant edge. This makes the chance of deviations much less, but cannot offer a 100% solution either.
Make sure that you choose the type of sandpaper, grain size and intermediate sanding method in such a way that you do make mechanical scratches but also do not sand through the existing layers of lacquer. Usually, grain size P120/P150 is sufficient. If you experience the first scratches of fresh sandpaper as just too aggressive, take the initial sharpness off the sandpaper by rubbing two sheets lightly over each other.
Some factory-applied lacquers have a strong dulling effect on sandpaper. Keep this in mind and change in time.
Yes, this is possible, and very easy to do on a small kitchen scale with a tare function. Use the mixing ratio as indicated in the Technical Data Sheet. Make sure to shake the entire packaging of the A-component well before taking a part out.
Two tips for resealing the hardener: Squeeze as much air as possible from the pouch and wipe the spout clean. This will extent the shelf life and ensure that you can still unscrew the cap the next time. But please note: the hardener has a limited shelf life after opening.
Covering a freshly lacquered floor always involves risks, although these are less when using a breathable quality. Our advice is to first carefully consider whether the work sequence can be adjusted, so that covering can be omitted. If there is really no other option, we advise the professional to first deliver the floor and only then have it covered. Never use tape to secure the covering material to the fresh lacquer coat.
